Muhonen has been working at all school grades: at primary grades, upper grades, as well as

at the upper secondary school. She started at her teacher educator career at 1996 at the

University of Jyaskyla. Since 1998, she has had a position at the Viikki Teacher Traning School

of Helsinki University, which involves work as a teacher educator, primary school teacher

and music teacher.

She actively combines research and practice, her main research interests lying in creative

approaches to learning and the building of new practices (especially within music and

utilizing mobile devices in learning processes within the subjects in general education). She

has published several peer-revised articles in Finnish and international journals and

presented her work in several academic conferences in Finland and abroad. She is also

experiences adult educator.

Muhonen has published practical material fort he teaching of primary school music for

students and 1 and 2. Her newest book is on songcrafting with children, and newest

scientific articles concern creative agency within music education.

Muhonen has been actively working with the Finnish curricula renewal fort he year of 2016.

She was one of the eight expert members of writing the national text for Finnish National

Curriculum for Basic Education at the National Board of Education. She has also been

educating principals and teachers in understanding the basic ideas in the new curriculum

and getting hold of the local curriculum work. Furhermore, Muhonen is actively doing

curriculum work at her own school.
